Chronic low-back pain is a widespread and debilitating syndrome. Herniated discs are the second most common reason for a visit to a physician, among the top 10 reasons for visits to internists and the most common and most expensive reason for work disability. While there are three broad treatment options for treating herniated discs – surgical, non-surgical and pharmacological – there is little consensus on which approach is appropriate or preferable for various scenarios. Current evidence-based guidelines recommend conservative treatment for at least two months, and often for much longer, before a surgical option is considered.
Surgery is associated with risks, and the outcome in many patients with discogenic back pain is unpredictable. Conservative treatments vary widely and are individualized to the patient. These include exercise, yoga, cognitive behavioral therapy, analgaesics, superficial heat therapy, acupuncture, acupressure and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. Today, you don’t have to live with that pain anymore.

The DRX9000 computerised non-surgical spinal decompression system was designed to provide maximum patient benefits with the use of a non-invasive approach that may help minimise healthcare resources and offer a potentially optimal therapeutic approach to the treatment of herniated discs. The DRX9000 aims to relieve pain by enlarging intra-discal spaces, reducing herniation and decreasing intra-discal pressure during treatment. The system can also be used after surgery for recurrent hernias. DRX9000 system contributes to the restoration the damaged disk without harming the spine.

DRX9000 system works by gently separating the vertebrae above and below the involved disc. This separation causes a negative pressure to be exerted on the disc creating a vacuum effect. The negative pressure draws the bulge or herniation back within the disc space similar to an eyedropper drawing in fluid. In the case of degenerative disc disease, the negative pressure draws fluids, nutrients and oxygen from the surrounding tissues, resulting in disc rehydration and repair. We can greatly reduce the size of the hernia and successfully eliminate the back pain with this method, so now many patients have the opportunity to return to an active life, which seemed impossible before. Each therapy session lasts from 30–45 minutes. DRX9000 system treats over the course of six weeks  with five sessions per week in the first two weeks tapering to two sessions per week in the last two weeks.

Back pain, leg pain, or weakness of the lower extremity muscles is often the result of a herniated disc. A herniated disc may occur suddenly in an event such as a fall or an accident, or may occur gradually with repetitive straining of the spine. When a disc herniation occurs, the cushion that sits between the spinal vertebras is pushed outside its normal position which can pinch the spinal nerves and spinal cord. This pinching can result in what is known as electric shock pains, tingling, numbness, muscle weakness and various other symptoms.

While older model spinal traction tables use mechanized traction to gently pull on the spinal column, our more modern DRX9000 works differently to realign the affected disc, vertebra and nerves. We administer a  spinal decompression  process that applies force logarithmically to elongate the spine without causing the muscles to contract. Even in complicated hernias, it gives a positive result in 86%. Every hospital can dream about this system, but not anyone can get it, because it requires professional and highly qualified doctors. And Diamed Medical Center is proud of it.
